School health services

United Lisbon has both a full-time nurse and psychologist on staff to help support students in their day-to-day lives, whether handling minor injuries and concerns or working with families to manage long-term conditions. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all students while providing prompt and appropriate care.

The nurse, psychologist and wider support staff form a multidisciplinary team to ensure students receive comprehensive care. We coordinate interventions, share important information, and provide a holistic approach to support each student’s health, wellbeing, and learning needs.

A word from the school nurse

Hello families and students!

As your school nurse, I’m here to support the health and wellbeing of every student, provide care when needed, and help ensure a safe and healthy school environment.

I am a registered nurse, licensed by the Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa. My extensive experience in nursing has given me valuable skills and tools to support the health and wellbeing of students at school, both in emergencies and in the management of chronic conditions.

Based in the school infirmary, I provide nursing care to anyone in the school community who needs it.

Maria Corvo, School Nurse

A word from the school counsellor

As a school counsellor, I lead the strategic development of a comprehensive wellbeing framework across all educational levels. In addition, I am on hand to provide individual counselling, conduct student observations and risk assessments, and help to solve any problems students might be experiencing, working alongside families.

I design and implement a developmentally informed curriculum on wellbeing and emotional regulation, and collaborate with teachers to implement inclusive classroom strategies and contribute to safeguarding and early intervention processes.

I facilitate parent workshops, case consultations, meetings with parents and multidisciplinary meetings, while providing staff training to strengthen whole-school mental health literacy and ensure a preventative, systemic approach to student wellbeing.

SEN provision

The United Lisbon SEN team ensures that every student is equipped to thrive. Led by the head of SEN, the department consists of three case managers – each dedicated to specific grade levels. The team conducts observations, provides classroom strategies, guides families through the diagnostic process, and implements academic modifications to ensure progress. Parents with concerns about their child’s academic or social development may contact their homeroom teacher or respective SEN team member.

A word from our SEN psychologist

I believe that academic success and emotional well-being must go hand in hand. In an increasingly demanding academic environment, students face growing pressure to achieve results that significantly shape their future paths. While we uphold high standards, we know that without emotional balance, true academic fulfilment is not possible.

I work closely with teachers, who are increasingly attentive to student wellbeing, to ensure that academic rigour is balanced with care and understanding. In partnership with families, we implement appropriate adaptations and, when necessary, seek external evaluation and specialist support to guarantee that each student receives the guidance best suited to their needs.

We are not only an inclusive school, but a school that provides fair, thoughtful responses and meaningful guidance to every family as needed. By collaborating with international schools and professional networks, we continuously reflect and improve our practice.

Above all, we are proud to offer a safe space where students feel supported, heard, and empowered, because when wellbeing is protected, students are truly able to thrive.

Parent Workshops

The wellbeing team created the parent workshops to address the hardest parts of being a child and a parent. In these workshops, we invite all parents to share their concerns on previously proposed topics while giving tools based on the most recent studies on brain development and health and wellbeing.
Every family has struggles, we are the eternal learners in life, children don’t come with instruction manuals and some of us don’t even have a village for support. Here at ULIS we share a sense of community and support to make sure every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We cannot separate the family from the child, so working as a team is the best way to ensure we are building a structured and supportive community that ensures the success, health and happiness in later life.
